Gifts Received When We Release Clutter

I recently received a call from my aunt.  It was a nice surprise, because we don’t speak on the phone very often.  She called to tell me about a special gift she had recently received.  She had just finished going through all of her Christmas and Holiday cards she’d been saving for the last 8 years and that she was donating the fronts to a local school for use in their art projects.  She also shared she had been looking for a picture of a tree she could frame, but hadn’t been able to find one she liked.  In going through her cards, she happened upon a card I had made years ago that featured a snow-covered maple in my back yard.

Sharb Backyard Tree

It turns out this was just the picture she had been looking for.  In fact it’s already in a frame and she is enjoying it every day.

It was wonderful to get this call from my aunt.  Making this connection brought a smile to my face.  It was also wonderful to get this call because it affirmed the idea that when we release the clutter in our lives we’re left with the gift of what is most important to us.  Maybe the gift is a special picture.  Maybe the gift is the long forgotten reminder of a treasured time.  Maybe the gift is simply more open space and freedom from worrying about the clutter.

Does it make you wonder what gifts you might find amongst your clutter?

Aunt Polly called me when she found the picture of the snow-covered tree. She was so happy to finally have it back.
